Looking for Stanfield School District Budget Committee Members
Stanfield School District is looking for dedicated individuals who are interested in serving in the position of a Budget Committee Member. The position would involve meeting a few times in the evening to discuss and recommend next year’s school budget.
The budget committee is established in accordance with ORS 294.336. The purpose of the committee is to review, discuss and recommend the proposed budget presented to them by the budget officer.
The budget committee shall hold one or more meetings for the following purposes: 1) Receive budget message and document; and 2) provide members of the public with an opportunity to ask questions about and comment upon the budget document.
Appointed members (electors) cannot be officers, agents, or employees of the Stanfield School District; and electors must be registered in-district voters. The committee members are appointed by the Board of Education Directors from those who have expressed in interest and are appointed for 3-year terms. All committee members have the same authority.
All meetings are subject to public meetings Law. A quorum is required to conduct business. Budget committee members may request additional information from the district's budget officer. A majority is required to take action. The budget document is a public document when budget committee receives it. Take public comment at one or more meetings. Recommend the budget and each tax levy to the Stanfield School District Board of Education.
The budget committee shall, at its first meeting after its appointment, elect a presiding officer from among its members. The presiding officer chairs the committee meetings. A vice chair may be elected to chair meetings in the absence of the presiding officer.
